THE COMMUNITY OF COLUSA

The Community

Colusa, California, is an historic town located on the Sacramento River one hour north of Sacramento. Tree-lined streets, old Victorian houses, many established parks, and the second oldest operating courthouse in California offer a relaxed life style in a "hometown" atmosphere highlighted by family oriented sports programs.  As the county seat of Colusa County, this is an agricultural community surrounded by abundant orchards of peaches, prunes, apricots, almonds, walnuts and carpets of lush green rice and winter wheat fields. Known for its reputation as an excellent place to raise a family, Colusa boasts of good schools, active churches, and a lack of big city crime, congestion, and pollution.

Recreation

Located on the Pacific avian flyway, Colusa enjoys an abundance and variety of waterfowl and upland bird species, providing an ideal opportunity for splendid outdoor recreational activities such as birding, photography, fishing, boating and excellent hunting.  Some of the West's best water and snow skiing areas are close by.  Our community also has an NCGA rated semi-private 9-hole golf course, which features a driving range, children’s clinic and lessons by a PGA pro.  A women's group and family memberships are also available.  California's famous wine country, San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, the scenic Mendocino coast, Lake Tahoe and Reno are all within two to three hours driving time of Colusa.  And for those having an interest in gambling, the local Cachil Dehe Wintun Indian Tribe operates a beautiful casino resort.

Education

Colusa's highly rated school system offers individual attention and there is an excellent parochial school.  There is also an active home schooling group.  Outstanding post-secondary education is close by at California State University of Chico and Sacramento, and the University of California at Davis -- all within one hour's drive of Colusa.  A junior college (Yuba College) is located in Marysville, which is approximately 30 minutes away.
