Colusa Regional Medical Center, Caring for Our Community Doug Stoddard, RN, New Director of Home Health
When interviewed, Doug reported that he really enjoys working in the Colusa community. “I feel really appreciated by the patients here. The doctors are more caring and supportive than any other place I have worked. And, I love that I don’t have to spend hours in traffic to get to a patient’s home to make a visit.” “In my role as a home health nurse, I get to know the patient as a person in his/her own surroundings. I am better able to assess the patient’s total care needs and make recommendations on how to enhance the medical recovery process. I love working with seniors and helping them to understand their illness and to remain independent in their own homes.” “I know it is going to be a challenge to continue to grow this program to fill the increasing demand for services. There is a chronic nursing shortage everywhere and we have to attract nurses to home health and to Colusa County. The Medicare regulations are constantly changing; always with more restrictions and lower reimbursement.” When asked why he took the management challenge, he replied, “I just want to do my part to be sure this program continues to serve the community. The members of the community are our present and our future. In home health, you feel like you are a part of the community. If you are part of the community, then you just help each other out.” Doug can be reached at the CRMC Home Health office by calling 530-458-2075. |
