Colusa Regional Medical Center, Caring for Our Community

ARBUCKLE MEDICAL OFFICE RE-OPENED

During the recent Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting event in Arbuckle, the Arbuckle Medical Office was officially re-opened.  Dale Kirby, Chief Executive Officer of Colusa Regional Medical Center [CRMC], commented that it was an honor reopening of the medical office.

“The Arbuckle Medical Office has enjoyed a long and honored history in Arbuckle.  As you know, the clinic was operated for many years by Doc Johnson. Well, CRMC is very pleased to re-open the clinic and continue the excellent patient care he provided to the community”, Kirby said. Kirby continued, adding that Colusa Regional Medical Center is committed to making access to quality healthcare in the western and southern parts of Colusa County a top priority for the years to come. “With the growth in population up the I-5 corridor, plans are being considered to bring even more healthcare services to this area,” he added.

Charla Parker, CRMC Director of Planning and Program Development commented that the willingness of the Johnson family to insure that the clinic could continue to offer medical services in Arbuckle was very much appreciated. “We [CRMC] are very grateful to the Johnson family,” she said. Many Colusa County residents are familiar with the medical practice of Richard “Doc” Johnson MD.

Colusa County Supervisor Kim Vann [District I] attended the opening as well. Vann said she recalled coming to the clinic as a child and added that it is wonderful to have it open once again. The clinic officially re-opened on August 14 and is open 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Long-time Arbuckle resident Darcy Godinez returned to the office as head office coordinator. Theta Corona, who worked with Dr Johnson during the last eight years of his practice, is serving as medical assistant at the clinic. Elizabeth Estrada, PA, will provide primary care services and has been joined by Dr Gilbert Martinez MD, Family Practitioner. Dr. Charles McCarl, MD is serving as medical director of the clinic.  Godinez explained that the clinic will provide a full line of medical services from pediatrics to geriatrics.

There are also a number of programs available at the clinic. The Health Access Program [HAP] is free and a confidential program open to women. It includes birth control, pap smears, etc. The Cancer Detection Program [CDP] is an income-qualifying program which covers pap smears, breast exams, etc. Godinez commented that in addition to accepting all types of insurance, the clinic also provides a sliding fee scale for patients without insurance.

During the grand opening ribbon cutting, long-time area resident Leo “Bub” Howe said that he was very glad the clinic was once again open.  He celebrated his 89th birthday by doing the bunny hop and received a special door prize from the clinic. Lorraine McBurney and her students from Music & More Dance Studio in Arbuckle entertained guests, and MaryAnn Boles of Umpqua Bank brought the Bank’s ice cream truck to disperse treats.

Peter Jukusky, executive director of Colusa County Economic Development Corporation as well as Dr. McCarl also attended.

Godinez said that she is very happy to be associated with the reopening of the clinic. “This is my community, and I am very pleased that this needed service is being provided here,” she said.
