CRMC Provides
Leadership First Class of B.E.S.T High School Students Graduate In May, 25 students from Pierce, Colusa and Williams High Schools graduated from the B.E.S.T. (Blood, Energy, Sweat & Talent) program, a 20-hour healthcare careers orientation course sponsored by CRMC and funded with donations and grants from Community Foundation of Colusa County, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Sierra Health Foundation and Colusa County One-Stop Partnership. Students successfully completed the course, taught by Loraine McBurney and CRMC staff, on their own time, after school and on Saturdays. They learned about healthcare career options, career educational requirements, healthy eating and preparation for worksite opportunities with local healthcare providers. Sue Graue, CRMC community relations representative and B.E.S.T. Program Coordinator, commented that, “We are delighted to be a part of this county-wide collaboration of agencies, and to have had the opportunity to sponsor job development activities for our local students. With predictions of increasing shortages of healthcare professionals throughout our state and country, our hope is that these local students will pursue healthcare career education and return home to work in their communities.” The B.E.S.T. (Blood, Energy, Sweat, Talent) program is the result of more than 200 meeting hours over the past year amongst a collaborative of 58 individuals from more than 20 community agencies, education districts and healthcare providers. Over 40 students from Pierce, Williams and Colusa High Schools applied for the opportunity to participate.
